Bridge to Algebra

What's Happening this week?

We are continuing to work on our Room Re-Decorating Project this week. Some students have become quite the bargain hunters and are stretching their budgets as far as they can. One student was able to find 144 sq.ft of floor covering for under $140, including tax!

Students should have a list of all of their purchases and a draft of their scale drawings by Wednesday, Oct.25th for review. They will then receive a "discount" sheet to re-calculate the total cost of their items, and will also receive a 12"x12" sheet of paper for their final scale drawing. We will be transferring the cost information to a spreadsheet and calculating percentage categories.

Next week we will also be taking a test on all of the formulas and geometric concepts learned thus far (Area, Perimeter, Circumference, Surface Area,Volume of various geometric shapes).

Please ask to see your child's budget and scale drawing. Discuss with them how you estimate the price of a sale item at a store and how you determine if something is a "good deal".

Algebra 1

What's Happening This Week?

Our interest project is due this Thursday, Oct 25th. We will also be taking a quiz this week on the formula for simple interest : Interest =Principal x rate x time.

This week we are solving multi-step equations with variables on both sides, and translating algebraic expressions into equations. Students will also be taking tutorials on Studyisland.com and Hippocampus.org.

Students will also be encouraged to start thinking about creating their own math projects to enter into project foundry.
