General Information
I can't believe we are officially into the second semester of the school year. As I mentioned to many of you during the Celebration of Learning, I am available for after school tutoring Monday through Wednesday from 4:00-4:40 and available for parent conferences Thursday and Friday from 4:00-4:40. Some students have already started coming by after school! Looks like we are all off to a great start!
A new Studyisland section will be assigned this week for each of the cohorts. Please let me know if you are having trouble accessing your child's account, and also if you would like to receive an automatic weekly progress report sent via e-mail by Studyisland.
What's Happening This Week?
Cohorts A & B
CA Content Standards to be addressed:
6th grade
1.1 Write and solve one-step linear equations in one variable.
1.2 Write and evaluate an algebraic expression for a given situation, using up to three variables.
7th grade
1.1 Use variables and appropriate operations to write an expression, an equation, an inequality, or a system of equations or inequalities that represents a verbal description (e.g., three less than a number, half as large as area A).
1.4 Use algebraic terminology (e.g., variable, equation, term, coefficient, inequality, expression, constant) correctly.
Students spent most of last week reviewing how to add, subtract, multiply & divide positive and negative integers. This week, students will be learning how to translate word problems into equations and how to solve one-step equations involving addition/subtraction or multiplication/division.
Cohorts C & D
CA Content Standards to be addressed:
4.1 Solve two-step linear equations and inequalities in one variable over the rational numbers, interpret the solution or solutions in the context from which they arose, and verify the reasonableness of the results.
Last week, students reviewed how to solve one-step equations involving addition/subtraction or multiplication/division. This week, students will be assessed on solving two step equations and simple inequalities.
Cohorts E & F
CA Content Standards to be addressed:
9.0 Students solve a system of two linear equations in two variables algebraically and are able to interpret the answer graphically. Students are able to solve a system of two linear inequalities in two variables and to sketch the solution sets.
Last week, students reviewed how to derive the equation of a line given slope and a point. This week we will be translating word problems into equations, and solving systems of equations.
